ECAN Leadership Participates in Strategic Engagements at UNGA81 in New York
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — The Economic Club of Africa Network (ECAN) is strongly represented at the ongoing 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81) in New York, with members of its leadership participating in a series of strategic engagements with partners and stakeholders.
ECAN Board Chair, Prof. Fred Olayele, alongside Board Directors Mr. Obi Emekekwue and Mr. Tunde Fafunwa, participated in meetings and discussions focused on issues spanning three areas central to ECAN’s mission: finance, innovation, and development.
The ECAN delegation also participated in key sessions of Unstoppable Africa, the flagship convening of the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI), which brings together African and global leaders from business, government, investment, and development to advance conversations around Africa’s economic transformation.
Convened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres and H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, and organized and coordinated by the United Nations Global Compact, the fifth edition of Unstoppable Africa is being held under the theme: “Powering Business, Scaling Economies, Shaping the Future.”
“UNGA provides an important opportunity to engage with leaders and institutions shaping the global economic and development agenda,” said Prof. Fred Olayele, Chair of the ECAN Board of Directors. “Our engagements in New York reinforce ECAN’s commitment to connecting ideas, capital, leadership, and partnerships in ways that can translate Africa’s enormous opportunities into tangible economic and development outcomes.”
Prof. Olayele added that ECAN’s participation is particularly aligned with the Network’s increasing emphasis on moving conversations about Africa beyond potential toward execution, investment, innovation, and measurable impact.
ECAN congratulates Ms. Sanda Ojiambo, CEO of the United Nations Global Compact, and her team on another successful edition of Unstoppable Africa and on their continued efforts to provide a high-level platform for advancing Africa’s economic priorities within the global agenda.
